Short Description Lefkimi, a picturesque lordly village, surrounded by the beauties of nature, is situated on the edge of the protected forest of Lefkimi - Dadia – Soufli, at the center of the Evros prefecture and has as its trademark one of the most beautiful churches of the area.
The construction of the holy church of the Nativity of the Virgin started at around 1900. The first inauguration was on September 8th, 1902. It is a basilica church with remarkable architecture. The famous stone masters of Lefkimi gave the church a distinctive and beautiful countenance, kept intact and elaborate until today.
Many great hagiographies of the early 20th century, by painters of Edirne and the entire region of Thrace, decorate the church, manifesting its bygone superiority.
On September 8th every year the church celebrates the Nativity of the Virgin with many festive events.
